1917
After M.O. Sullivan and Earl Hayes neglected their gardens on Van Avenue, neighbors Elisha Sexton and George Tolen asked local government to take possession and turn them over to neighbors who would “keep the weeds down and the vegetables up,” according to the Republican.
The following eight St. Joseph school pupils received diplomas and were prepared to enter high school: Maxine Rembusch, Fern Moore, Rudolph Hummeldorf, William Mack, Anthony Hotopp, and Duncan McDougall.
1942
The public pool was expected to open July 1 due to repairs made necessary when the ground under part of the bathhouse and pool sank.
Only two of the city parks’ five tennis courts were ready for use as street commissioner Everett Rhodes attempted to secure clay for resurfacing the courts. One was ready in Morrison Park; the other in Kennedy Park.
1967
AB David Southworth headed to basic training in Texas.
Rev. Floyd Welton was announced as incoming pastor of Lewis Creek Baptist Church.
1977
Hanover basketball camp attendees were Mark Frost, Pat Larber, Burke Sandman, Ronnie Carr, J.D. Lux, Tim Barnard, Greg Conger, Mark Kennedy, David Law, Mark Coers, Barry Hinrichs, Matt Frost, Scott Law, Kent Neeb, David Ayers, Clay Hoefener, Dusty Roser, Greg Thoman, Carl Muncy, Todd Benson, Tim Bruce, Tom Runnebohm, Dan Beaty, Brian Schofner, Chris Dausch, Brad Schofner, Scott McIntyre, Tracey Shaw, Brett Griffey, and David Settles. They heard Tom Abernathy, formerly of Indiana University’s national champions and current Los Angeles Laker, speak and lead the camp.
A housewarming was held for former Marietta fire chief Delbert Isley and his family at their new home on Airport Road.
1992
Shelbyville native and SHS class of 1965 alumnus Denny Fox accepted the Athletic Director position at a Wisconsin college.
