Life-long Shelbyville residents of all ages recall their favorite moments at the county fair. This week, we asked various locals to share their stories:
Taylor Plummer, SHS senior
“(This year) when my friends and I got on the ‘Freak Out,’ the fireworks started going off. Coolest thing ever!”
Kyle Kennard, 2016 SHS graduate
“Getting stuck upside down for ten minutes on the ‘Screamer’.”
Daniella Joseph, SHS junior
“Going to the fair for the first time with my parents and riding the little dragon roller coaster all day. I was so excited about it.”
Nikki Roberts-Hudgins, Asset Recovery Specialist
“(My daughter) Kaitlyn Frazee being in the baby contest!”
Angel Doremus, QMA at Especially Kidz
“Mud volleyball, win or lose, it was fun, smiles from the players and everyone watching. All different ages playing ‘just to have fun.’ Good times!
Emily Cangany, teacher at Hendricks Elementary School
“When I was little, I showed pigs. One pig wouldn’t go back to its pin and got loose from its owner. I got caught in the chase and was ran over by the pig!”
Cheyanne Goebel, student at University of Southern Indiana
“My favorite memory from the fair is how my mom takes me every single year just to get a funnel cake and a lemonade shake up! The tradition still lives on to this day!”
Rebecca Couch, nursing student at Ivy Tech
“My favorite thing is to wait until dark and look down the midway, it’s so pretty and nothing says Indiana summer like fair time!”
Chris Piercy, SHS senior
“My favorite memory was the time I took my brothers for the first time and we ended up bringing home 25 gold fish and we don’t even have a fish tank.”
Julia Hamblen, 4-H member
“Showing my hog, Titan, this year. I grew so close to him and we worked so hard that we received champion landrace for my first year.”
Jayde Balting, second runner-up Shelby County fair queen
“Having all of the fair board take care of us (Fair court), they were always getting us drinks and snacks and other drinks.”
